Random Thoughts

Ya know, I never in a million years thought I would start a blog. I mean, really, who cares what I have to say? But I recently saw another blog by a woman who created her own business, and she is using it more as a record of her journey as an entrepreneur. Sounds plausible. I could do that, I guess. So here we are. Welcome to the ramblings of a pumpkin.

Happy Jack Designs was born out of necessity, really. My 15 year stint in the corporate world as a graphic designer was taking a turn for the worse. It was time to pack up my "Associate of the Year" award and call it a day. (Well, actually, I left the award there. I was a tiny bit bitter.) In August of 2004 I suddenly found myself sitting in the backyard in the middle of the day. No longer tied to a desk or the phone. It took quite a while to get used to. After two glorious weeks of bike riding, swimming and playing with my two little redheads...the kids went back to school and left me on my own with just the loopy dog to keep me company.

What did I know how to do? My background was in music. And in art. And I loved to read, as did my kids. We have a house full of books, so I decided to combine my love of children's books and my creative flair to start a business of designing children's book baskets and other personalized gift items. So Happy Jack Designs was born September 1, 2004.

Why a smiling pumpkin, you ask? I dunno. I was always fond of the images of primitive pumpkins. I have a small collection of them, and they always make me smile.
